Melanotan 2: A Research Guide
Melanotan 2 is studied for its activation of melanocortin receptors, producing three largely independent effects researched across separate receptor subtypes: skin pigmentation, libido, and appetite regulation.

Mechanism
Pigmentation effects occur via MC1R binding on melanocytes, triggering the same melanin synthesis pathway activated by UV exposure and producing chemically identical pigmentation without UV light. Libido effects are mediated separately through MC4R activation in the hypothalamus, independent of testosterone, estrogen, or other sex hormones, which published safety data also confirms remain unaffected.
