Tirzepatide: A Research Guide
Tirzepatide is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist that has become one of the most closely studied compounds in metabolic research. Mechanism
Unlike single-pathway GLP-1 agonists, tirzepatide activates both the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. GIP activation triggers fat cell breakdown directly within adipose tissue, while GLP-1 activity drives appetite suppression and glucose regulation through separate central and peripheral pathways. Imaging studies confirm that the majority of weight lost is visceral fat, with lean muscle largely preserved even at the scale of reduction observed in trials.
